The good weight. This is another perpetuated misconception that gets repeated and repeated and so on. Most every 416 Rigby off the rack is about 10 pounds so somehow this gets translated to a "good weight." With a good-fitting stock, 8 lbs. is plenty, but you will have a difficult time finding one that light. I'm old and lazy so I wanted a flyweight. So I went to the 416 Taylor. At 7 1/2 lbs. it is a pussycat to shoot. And it has the same ballistics as the Rigby. ![]() But start anywhere you want. It is impossible to tell someone what is a good weight. It is all trial and error until YOU decide. |
