Post photos or diagrams of your standing rests for big bore rifles. As most here know, felt recoil from a bench rest feels more severe. Harsh recoil is not wise for good accurate shooting. Hooting from a standing position is the most inaccurate however. So using shooting sticks is better. But no rest for the butt. A standing bench rest is best. I use the bonnet of my Landcruiser as a substitute. This still leaves one bent over forward a little. No ideal. Nor can this method be used on a proper rifle range. One might use a post if the range permits it. I'm lucky as I use my own property. I think I've seen a quad or "quin" pod, with a tripod at the front and a bar extending back to another leg or two. In theory the rear part could provide support for the butt. Such might be used at a range or ad hoc use. Does anyone have one, use one? Any links, photos? Post photos or diagrams of your standing rest, standing benches. There might be past threads. I remember some good ones. Have to do a search. A suitable topic for a pinned post. |
