Beats me!
My friend's contention was that the sharp edge after trimming adds extra "bite" to the crimp.

Admittedly, deburring is in reality outside-deburring and inside-chamfering, the latter thinning the brass at the very point where it needs to be strongest, to hold the crimp.
So perhaps his argument was valid!
