Bonanza, I have a Franconia Mauser 98 in 9.3 x 64 and love it - I have put a Leupold on it and have shot heaps of Buffalo and Pigs with it at all velocities and with different weight bullets. It kills just like a 375H&H and an animal wouldn't tell the difference. The 320 grain (heavy bullet for calibre) really add extra punch over and above what most books stop at as the 320gn was originally a 360 No 2 double rifle bullet. Re the comment "From a practical standpoint, I prefer the 9.3 x 62 because it is easier to get brass and factory ammo." This used to be the case but both cases and dies are much more readily available. I think the 9.3 is becoming more and more popular in the US (in the 62 version at least) but with Winchester bringing ot the 8mmWSM, it will get people looking at the metrics again. 62 vs 64 - the 64 has a bit more power etc etc but in reality a small field difference except maybe on the largest animals. 2 best friends have 62's and have had no problems shotting Scrub Bulls, Buffalo etc. Re legal - I think 9.3 is legal in most countries in Africa, particulalry the 64 but you'd have to get one of the other experts on the forum to clarify. You wouldn't be dissapointd in it. If you ant more info, PM me with an email address. 500 Nitro |
