I was thinking of the Jurras Howdahs, I did not know he used his own proprietary cartridges for those. At the time he started making them, some of the articles written on them seemed to imply they were more powerful than the original blackpowder Howdahs. I remember the Elmer Keith column in Guns & Ammo wherein Keith stated that the .500 Howdah made by Jurras kicked too much because it touched the brim of his hat when he fired it. I got the impression Keith at the time had a serious case of the "not invented here" syndrome because he stated that his .44 magnum was the most powerful practical cartridge...and said the same in reference to Casull's .454 and heavy .45 Colt loads.
