This 458 is just heavy it's out. Thanks all for the help deciding. The Kimber is interesting I agree, in 375 it might get the nod. The 416 Ruger is a no go for me because of ammo availability in Africa. I am having Joe Smithson build me a 8lbs 375 H&H on a small ring GMA action. 22 inch SS barrel with machined sling swivel, rear sight base and front sight base. It will be cere coated in his custom carbon fiber stock. His QR rings holding a 1-8x24 Z8i Swaro scope. Because of the caliber this might get the taken and I'll just insure it. I'm having Kevin Weaver build me a 400 Whelen (Whelen/Petrov) on an SS Sako 85 action. 21 inch SS match barrel with fixed v rear, banded front and banded barrel band. It will be in a McMillan hunters edge light stock and sent to Robar for NP3 finish on all internal and external parts. I have a Leupold VX6 1-6x24i in Talley QR rings and bases for it. No ammo in Africa but I started this as the perfect rain forest rifle. Short, light, weatherproof and the ballistics of the 400gr 450-400 load. The last option might just be to use the camp Winchester 70 in 375, then I don't have to deal with guns and ammo. This is tempting but I really like hunting with my stuff. I know these are first world problems but I'd like ans ah ha moment. |
