Re: Nitros and Worn Bores

Good morning, and Good Friday!

Question: Does a worn or "tired" bore affect the accuracy as much on a rifle of .400+ caliber as it does on say a .30?

There is a .450/400 3 1/4" nitro I'm thinking of having a crack on but it is a very used rifle. This is the response I got when asked of bore condition. It's not a double rifle.

"The bore is worn and tired and lightly pitted."

Cheers,
Ash.

I have a WR in .470 Nitro --had some work done on it and was told by the very knowledgeable gunsmith about 1/2 the life of the barrel was gone..but was also told this was one of the most accurate doubles he has ever shot..
