The forend tip is rosewood. And yes, the grip cap is typical "stamp-checkered" with a single attaching screw, like those on Fajen stocks. However, the checkering is lightning pattern "borderless", with a wrap-around pattern on the forend. Most Fajen stocks I've seen had checkering with borders, and 2-panels on the forend. Also, the recoil pad is Pachmayr.

It would be interesting to find a 1960's Fajen catalog to see what options were available.
