I've got a Safari Magnum in 458Lott...the ones Clayton's were knocking out a while back as supposedly seconds. Given with any big bore, I'd have the feeding worked on before taking it hunting, I thought this was a great chance to pay less and then get the work done I wanted anyway. So, stock stripped and refinished with oil (and not a bad bit of walnut for a cheap gun), bedded and relieved around the tang a bit more, action slightly cleaned up, feeding checked/improved (Some are apparently terrible, especially in 458Lott), metalwork Cerakoted to get rid of the horrible Parkerising, and a Timney fitted in place of the factory set trigger...total cost, less than the "non-seconds" were new, and a much nicer rifle, IMHO. At some point, it will become a 500Jeffery, and I'll either get a new stock, or have an ebony tip fitted and get rid of the front sling stud, but it'll do as-is for now. (Terrible picture, as it started chucking it down as I took it, but haven't bothered to retake it!) |
