Re: JOHN BUHMILLER'S 416 RIGBY - BREVEX MAUSER - MY LATEST FIND

Hello lancaster, Daryl S, xausa,

Thanks for your replies. Digging for information about a gun and its builder can be a very slow and tedious process -with lots of dead ends and do-overs. Alas, some not so do-overs. But, every so often you find a little tid-bit of info that makes it worth while.

I just found a reference that said John liked "open sights" for close-in work on Dangerous Game. It said that what worked best for him was an open rear sight with the back of the wide front blade painted white - re-applied as needed. When I got this rifle, the back of the front sight was covered with layers of white paint; which I soon removed.

Although I now regret removing the paint, I did find a gold insert in the back tip of the blade. Oh Well.
