look around for a cheap M-70 in .30-06 and simply restock it. I have three M-70s that was sold under $300 (new) as the model Ranger and they're great as a barreled action and when restocked they're great guns.....price was right and they shoot extrtemely good. At times I've also bought M-70 barreled actions.....but you have to search for them.

That wood will turn any barreled action (including a Mauser) into a "looker".
