The Remington 700, quite unfortunately, is a decent agglomeration of manufacturing shortcuts, and its foremost design consideration was cost of manufacture. Hence the "pipe" receiver, sandwiched recoil lug, three piece soldered together bolt, and "paperclip" extractor. You can do much, much better for your money.
