Some 20+ years ago, I bought my first .375 H&H, a Whitworth Express, imported to the U.S. by Interarms. At that time I had high hopes of making a trip to Africa, so I just had to have a .375 H&H. Well, after a few years, I saw that going on Safari just wasn't in the cards in the forseable future, so I sold the gun(and made a nice tidy profit). Since then, I've been fortunate enough to be able to make several trips to Africa and used a Winchester Model 70 that I rechambered to 375 Ackley Improved. This piece has served me very well, but deep inside I've been really craving a reunion with a Whitworth Express like my 1st 375. Well, about a month ago, I put a search request out on the internet to see if anyone had one for sale, and about a week later I got a response from a guy near Dallas, TX. He said he had one in like new condition and he would let me have it for $550.00. I jumped on the chance, and today I was notified by my gunsmith that it arrived in his shop, and that it looks as though it's had no more than a single box of shells through it. He said that the wood is fantastic, and has a wonderful oil finish. The only problem now is that my gunsmith is 90 miles away from me and I won't have it in my hands until next week . I haven't been this anxious since I got married 28 years ago. |
