Quote: Why? I once shot a dingo at over 200 metres with my .375 H&H and 300 gr RNSPs ... probably was a lucky shot. ![]() My choices would be: 1. .375 Flanged Magnum in a side by side modern double, well fitted and regulated for a low powered scope. Perhaps a nice Heym that I looked at last year. This could be used on everything from medium game, to elephant. Longer range shooting potential with the scope, and in a well balanced lighter framed .375 DR very handy. 2. The second rifle would have to be able to take longer ranged shots on small and medium game. And be light enough to carry up and down mountains. So a .22 centrefire at the bottom, to something like a 7mm, .30, 8mm towards the top. Really I would go for a changeable barrel design as two rifles and calibres for everything is not realistic. Probably a 7x64, or .30-06, .300 or similar in a M98 type design. A single shot would be good, but lack the magazine if shooting lots of beasts. The other choice would be a .222 or .22 Hornet bolt action rifle which can handle rimfire jobs or bigger small stuff. My Mauser M03 with a .222 barrel, a 8x68S barrel, a 6.5x65 barrel and a .404 barrel, would make the second choice quite easy. ![]() Now that .404 would change the .375 Flanged Magnum into a .500 or .577. ![]() 3. As no one with intelligence can do without a shotgun, there would definitely be a good side by side shotgun in that two rifle gun case as well. |
