CZ 550 Safari

From: Jere (Original Message) Sent: 12/12/2002 6:51 AM
Just thought I'd tell the group about a good deal in a Safari rifle. I just bought a CZ550 BRNO Safari in .416 Rigby. The quality of this weapon is very good and the accuracy for this large cartridge is outstanding. Three shots at 100 meters that could be covered with a United States Quarter. It's built on a very strong refined Mauser action and has a set trigger. The rifle sells for around $700.00

Jerre,

Sounds good what does the stock look like and the balance of the rifle as well as the weight of the whole deal ?

I was thinking of getting one as well this side wehn I'm going to buy a bigger bore but I think I will rather get the 458 to get rimmed out for the lott as I already have a 375 and the 416 is not rerally built for stopping power although an excellent big game rifle.

Well, the rifle's balance is very nice. The stock is nothing fancy, but looks good (Turkish Walnut) and has hand cut checkering. The sling swivels are in the stock and I would prefer a barrel band, but no big deal. I also have a .458, but prefer the Rigby. Seems like you get a little better penetration. The Rigby has been stopping Africa's largest game very well since 1911. Guess tradition has a little to do with my choice also. Good Luck.

Jere

I think you are on a winner with the CZ550. They are very popular at the moment and good value.

I am also in the market for a CZ550 in 458 Win Mag which will probably be made also into a Lott. I would love one in 416 Rigby as well. That is a combination of a classic calibre from yesteryear and a modern "classic" rifle of the future.

I have the Ruger M77 Express Magnum in .416 Rigby, and I like the way it shoots. All the swivels are in the right place, and with the scope it weighs almost 11 lbs. Just this year they came out with it in .458 Lott. Even though this gun is a little more than the CZ, you would not have the expense of reaming out the chamber. Also in the states, Hornady is loading the .458 Lott in factory loads. Both solid and soft. I recently read an article and the .458 Lott really put the buff down.
