Friend of mine for 35 years, a guide and co-worker for 20 years is planning a trip with his wife to Africa for plains game as well as probably a hippo and Cape Buffalo. He was asked which guns he favours most of the time for is moose hunting at home. His response was his wife's .243 Browning lever gun using 85gr. TSX for moose, deer and elk, with which she is deadly. His usual rifles include, the .303/.308groove P-14 I chambered up for him but his preference his new .375 Ruger and his old standby, a 1917 custom in 8x68S. He was asked if he was comfortable with the .375 - and the reply was about 2,000 rounds a year from his several .375's usually H&H (Savage and BRNO) except for the new .375 in the Ruger chambering, which he really liked. He was told, the .375 and 8x68S along with the .243 will do just fine! |
