The 45/70 can be loaded with ease to drive a 400 grain woodleigh bullet to OVER 2150 fps - I have done it with my Ruger #1. That will EQUAL the much praised 450/400.

But the.450/.400 is a .411 (or .408) calibre rifle while the .45/70 is a .458.
You need to look at equivalent sectional densities to make the comparison which at a guess would be closer to 480 - 500 grain projectile in a .458 (to a .411 400 gr).
