Re: 45-70 Marlin for Cape Buffalo?

In reply to:

Maybe you're the one who does'n't understand!! I thought we were discussing whether or not the round was viable for killing a buff not whether or not it was legal to do so...

That's probably the problem with all these 45-70/Buff posts. They ask if it's viable. And why is that of any interest? All sorts of animals have been shot with all sorts of smaller, or less suitable caliburs, than is wise to use. Since the beginning of shooting history. People have shot big animals with 22LRs for that sake. But the fact that it's been done,(although many animals undoubtably took some time to die in some cases, and thus suffered for no reason...) doesn't mean that it's reccomended. Which is what just about everyone is saying in one way of another.

So, having received the many answers in the above posts that the 45-70 isn't a good idea, it sounds to me like your more interested in discussing inadequate (and illegal) options instead of actually discussing about hunting buff. With the virtually endless amount of choices of adequate and legal caliburs. Why is that? Is it the "inadequate and illegal" part that turns you on, and not the actual buff hunting itself?

Erik
