Some of the big 5 are not all that big. A good deer calibre with lightly jacketed bullets are what is needed for a leopard. A 180 grain Remington Cor Loct or Hornady Interlock out of a 30-06 is all you need. Even the king of beasts would be better served with a bullet that mushrooms easily such as a 300 grain Hornady round nose Interlock out of a .375 H%H or Ruger than an excellent, but too tough a bullet such as a 300 grain A Frame from Swift. Keep the A Frames for cape buffalo. Cape buffalo, elephants and rhinos need stout bullets that can really penetrate. Solids for the elephant and the rhino only, and as a back up for cape buffalo. |
