IMO, 99% of shooters of big bores will do better with a 416 Rem or Rigby...The Lott is an awful handfull or recoil and simply because someone can shoot a couple of shots off hand and say "hey, thats not bad" means zilch in a hunting situation...If you can shoot it prone, sitting and bent over forward, then the Lott is a good one for you...if not the the 416 is much better...
I have been shooting big bores for years and have hunted with them extensively, but I still prefer the 416 or 404 for hunting..I even load my .470 down to 2020 FPS. and I have not experienced being undergunned for anything..
I would rather see a client place a 416 400 gr. bullet in the heart than a 500 whatever someplace it doesn't belong. It is amazing to me how many people THINK they can shoot the real big bores, then spend a hunt screwing up shots..
If you can shoot the big ones then more power to you, they work well, but at least be honest with yourself..If you have to concentrate on not flinching, then your overgunned.
