I hear you SAHUNT, however many or all of the pressure spike problems have been solved with the use of the newer ADI powders like 2208 (I think that's Varget) and 2206H (H4895) Hodgdon Extreme powders.
Ripp here used a .416 in Africa with facgory-type loads of 2,400fps with 400gr. bullets without trouble - as did John Whooters with a .416 Taylor on buffalo in Zim, I think, same ballistics. Neither of these two, that I know of, used the more modern powders that are available today, at least not J. Whooters.

It will be interesting to see what the fallout happens to be on these new rounds.

I did use my .416 Rem in a custom shop Remington 700 Rifle on 4 hunts in Africa..used both factory loads and handloads for solids..used RL 15---chron'd them at the 2400 fps range...have never had any problems of any kind, including excessive pressures from heat...and have hunted in some very high temps...excess of 100F....the factory loads where 400 gr A-Frames--the solids I reloaded were 400 GR Barnes Solids...another interesting part to all this is the softs and solids at 100yds were basically hitting the same point of impact..which doesnt happen all that often..

Perhaps a bit excessive but also have a toally custom built .416 as well with a Mauser action and have recently purchased a new Winchester model 70 in .416 Rem caliber..so yes, I do like the .416..

Have a great one..
