I used a .375 Ruger in Kamchatka on a brown bear coming right at me at well under 20 paces. The short throw was a blessing. As Ripp said, the .416 Ruger should be a dandy in close quarters, and for smaller framed hunters. Not everyone can handle a magnum length action.
