A new barrel from E.R. Shaw threaded and short-chambered $135.00US. Here in the US we can RENT chamber reamers for $33.00US. Loading dies are $50-$55.00US. I do all the work myself. Throw on a new stock (roughly $125-$150.00US) and I'm good to go. I already have a spare scope and rings. That still beats the price of even a well used rifle and I get another project to keep me busy. I can also break up the cost into more manageable increments. To boot, the most dangerous game I'm likely to be hunting anytime soon is some pigs. Having 2 kids (and a 3rd on the way) and only 1 income doesn't leave much to go buy new guns. I'm not complaining or anything like that just stating the situation. I want an H&H so bad I can taste it. I just can't afford it. From what I have read, opinions range from "just as good as the H&H" to "about as useless as a 'roid". If you hunt DG even on a semi-regular basis I guess it would be much less than ideal. I know it would for me. |
