450 Rigby Magnum (Rimless) - how versatile

Hi
I have been thinking about a bolt action build for a while now and can't get the 450 Rigby Magnum out of my head. Karl Stumpfe's article plus some other comments on here got me interested.

I know that it will handle anything large that I want to shoot however based on the comments in the article I am just as interested in how versatile it could be. The article mentions 300gn slugs for plains game and I note that Woodleigh now make a 300gn as well as the 405gn projectile for the 45/70 which is 458cal so I am assuming it could be used for the Rigby (correct me if I am wrong here).

In order to handle the recoil of the bigger projectiles the rifle would need to be at least 10.5 pounds so adding a scope for the longer shots would make for a heavy gun to carry but it would be nice to have the versatility. Note that I am not looking to create the one perfect gun. Just want to explore dome possibilities.

Any thoughts / comments would be appreciated.

Regards
Rick
