Re: CZ 550 416 Rigby safety issue

Hi Wombat.

By general consensus, certainly in Africa, the CZ safety is hardly ideally designed. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that it works the "wrong way round". Your experience often manifests: even without "wearing heavy gloves".

However, I agree with Will regarding the M70 safety – for me, nothing beats the original Mauser "flag". But the M70 safety is probably the best you can do at a sensible price. It is a vast improvement on the original. There must be retrofits available in the U.S. or if not a good "genuine" gunsmith can solve your problem, albeit at a price. But, as I am currently living in Spain, the best I can suggest is to give Ed at AHR a call: he may well be able to help. With all due respect to Will, forget the longer bolt: there is absolutely nothing wrong with the original.

Other than the safety, it is a great action for the money - and the .416 Rigby is a great calibre. Just get that safefty fixed, and enjoy!
