Singleshot I like your Ruger No1's. Those flat nosed cast bullets would hit with a bit of thump.
There recoil reducers that don't have mercury in them. Just need to hunt around a bit to find them.

For any rifle with decent recoil I use a Limbsaver sissy pad when at the range. Certainly helps.
