Limbsaver make a Pad for the Ruger No 1's - it is quite a good seller for obvious reasons.

Nothing wrong with sissy pads - started shooting an SLR at 18 which has a metal butt plate so anything after that is a god send. I still use the pad sometimes for 500's at the range.
In the field I don't and sometimes after 5 - 15 rapid shots at animals you can still feel it !!!
