I haven't shot a double 470 NE or 500 NE, but I can tell you my 11.25 lb CZ 550 500 Jeffery is NOT to be shot from a bench without a lead sled, at least by me again. It's absolutely fine offhand, but a killer off the bench. I'm shooting 570g TSX's at 2410 fps so if the 500 NE double weighs the same, my 500 Jeffery will kick considerably more. Still, it's a hoot to shoot offhand or hunt with. I have a Leupold 1.5-5x20mm scope on it and it hasn't gotten close to "kissing" me yet.

Just for comparison, I just bought a Remington XCR II in 375 H&H that weighs 7 3/8 lbs with scope (6 1/2 lbs without scope) and it's recoil is neglible compared to the 500 Jeffery.
