Your merkel has a lot of stock drop compared to a properly stocked .500 jeff, so the merkel is likely to hit your face harder, but the Jeff will push you back more. Nonetheless, IMO there is no question that the .500 jeff has a much stouter punch to the shoulder than the .470. But as mentioned above, almost any gun can be miserable, like a 7.5 pound 458 win mag with a hard rubber pad.
