The .416 rigby made its rep at a lower velocity than many credit it for. Not unusual though, if one reads the velocity figures Taylor quotes for cartridges like the .30-06 and others that have made it to today, you can see that modern loadings are about 100fps faster than origional spec. Extra velocity isn't needed because all those cartridges made thier reputations long before US manufacture's started loading them up to "improve" performance. . |
