I think you answered your own post. The .375H&H was designed to hunt any soft skinned animal in the world. Specifically in British India and Africa. I believe it will do the job on DG but that really is the forte of the over .40's.
I did not vote on your poll. For a top dollar, once only rifle, I also agree the .300 H&H has the legs and pedigree to achieve all you need with modern powders and projectiles and will hit above its weight with correct shot placement. Just get a barrel with enough twist. The SD on a 220 Woodleigh is .331. Enough said.
