Re: Caliber poll

The poll is heavily favoring the 375, even though the question specified that dangerous game was not on the menu. The .300 will take just about any game with a 220 grain Woodleigh. Is this because of the "dream of Africa" drives your choice or is the .375 superior to the .300?

All of the 300 Win Mag hunting rifles I have ever owned have been traded or sold. In my opinion, and for well-considered reasons, the 30-06 is superior.

The 375 H&H is a well-balanced cartridge that I enjoy shooting. It serves well for American game, even though it is overly powerful. It does not have any significant disadvantages other than the weight of the gun (mine is only nine pounds). It performs well with affordable bullets, being of moderate velocity.

As a competitor in 1000-yard matches, I found the 300 Win Mag to be an advantage. In the hunting fields I do not.

Take care, Tom
