Re: Building up .404 Jeffery on standard M98

Hi Eagle27,
Thanks for your suggestion. At the moment I've no plans to reload this stuff so, I'll stick to factory ammo with standard vilocity (range of 2300fps). Eventually, I would be reloading but have no plans to hot load it (remember it's a standard length Mauser action).
Good Day.

Its no great trouble to run the 404 in a standard length 98 action and the extra length in the magazine is easily acomplished if you take half fron each end and the side walls need milling as well, it is the feeding that sometimes gets the unwary in difficulties. Mine took a couple of tweaks after initial build trial to get it 100% reliable and that is with using the origional follower.
RWS factory ran at 2330 in my 25in MAB (Aus) and handloading to that level is easily done. The 404 Jeffery is one of the old cartridges that has no need to be hot rodded past factory specs (unless you include the initial 2125 loading). 2200 - 2350 is all that is needed AFTER 100% reliable feeding is guaranteed.
