Re: 458 Tropical Rechambered to 470 NE

In reply to:

.458 WM, .458 Lott, .450x31/4" NE, .450 No.2, .470 NE etc, etc, are all pretty much clones. Why not step up a notch for a real improvement in horsepower with a .500x3"NE??

The astronomical cost of .470 NE ammo makes it a handloading proposition anyway!

I agree with 470Rigby, if you don't mind rebarreling, the 500NE is one of my all time favorites. The recoil of the 500NE is not soft, but is different from any bottlenecked cartridge. The BN cartridges seem to "SNAPP" the recoil to give the FELT RECOIL a sharper jab.

Just rebarreling is not all that will be done, however, even with the 470NE. Extractor, and opening the loading trough for the large rim of either, as they are both built on the 500 case!

I have had several No1s chambered for NE rounds over the years, and I loved every one of them. I'm now thinking about going the other way, as I need one re-barreled, and chambered for 9.3X74R,for a scoped rifle to go along with my 9.3X74R double rifle.
