The .458 WinMag & .458 Lott have a big push as far as recoil is concerned. The recoil is not a sharp hit like .300 WinMag or the other Weatherby Mags.

I have shot 50+ reloads using 405gr bullets with 84gr powder and my shoulder was a little sore the next bad, but nothing horrible.

On another note, factory loads are insanely priced! I can load 500gr Barnes solids at 2300fps for around $3 a round. If your friends wants some plinking loads....pick up .45-70 Govt. 405gr flat nose bullets and load'em up.
