Re: 375 H&H - Magnum or large rifle primer?

Quote:

Hello all,

What primer would you use in a 375 H&H?

A lot of, if not most information recommends magnum primers but then some say large rifle primers are OK.

I have done some preliminary loads and just used CCI large rifle primers as that is what I had on hand and they seemed to work just fine.

Anyway just wanted to know if I am possibly taking any risks or posing any danger to be using large rifle primers.

Cheers.

The 375 H&H is a magnum size case holding a magnum weight powder charge, so IMO a magnum primer is a better choice for this cartridge.
Have a look through all the reloading manuals and see what primers they use for the 375 H&H.
Most loads will use a magnum primer.
Regarding risks, I feel there is a higher degree of risk using a standard primer in that size case than using a magnum primer.
