Well, I've decided to go ahead and start with my next project. A couple of years ago I had a nice 7x57 Mauser made up on an Argentine action and have really loved it, both the cartridge and the action. I want a 404 Jeffery to (more or less) match it. I want to go with the 1909 action again. What is the current thinking on the magazine box issue? I understand feeding can be problematic. Who makes a proper box for this cartridge? I'd like to have a slight drop magazine for full capacity. What about bottom metal? Any recommendations as to metalsmiths that have done this same job in the past? Guys with 404's on standard Mausers - how do you find they feed, and what was the story on your individual builds? Thanks very much for any help. |
