I headed up into the mountains this morning and shot a cow elk to fill the freezer with meat for the winter and decided to bring my "big bore" 375 H&H along. It's a Browning A-Bolt with the Boss and I was shooting Federal Power Shocks 270 gr. At about 150 yards I took a shot at the elk and got it good in the right front leg. It then ran out to about 300 yards, and I couldn't hit that darm animal for the life of me! I must have unloaded three clip of shells and never hit it once. Finally, I was able to sneak up on it and at about 125 yards I put it down for good. When I sighted the gun, I had it zeroed at about 1" high at 100 yards. Can any of you tell me what the problem was? How much drop does the 375 H&H in 275 gr. have at 300 yards? By the way, here's a picture of me and the elk (sorry if it's a bit graphic - I'd just finished cleaning it): Thanks, Christopher |
