It's definitely no rumor as there are numerous threads documenting the wrist or mag well areas cracking here and on the AR forums. Evidently, the bedding isn't tight enough (cost cutting measure?) and the action gets a running start at the wood. In fact, to shortstop it in any rifle, at least glass it. Better yet, pillar and glass it.
