I can't help but put my two bits worth, into this discussion.
If you want to speed up the cleaning of a barrel, in my experience you need to use a correct-size-for-bore, Bronze Brush! The Brush helps to loosen up not only the Carbon Fouling but also the Jacket Fouling. Please refer to my Posting titled "How I clean Barrels" for more information.
The reason that I posted this is I could see that forum participants were in need of some help in this area. I don't want to sound Big Headed but I do have a lot of experience cleaning and preparing rifled bores.

I agree to an extent.
Before I use Wipe out, I use a brass brush to scrub the bore with Hoppe's etc or another cleaner. Wipe Out works better if you have removed the carbon deposits first.
However you can't use a Brass brush with Wipe out as it dissolves it !!!
