Well - 2 days ago I cleaned a long overdue bore with a new bottle of patch-out. This is the liquid form of wipe-out for using on patches and is supposedly up to 5 times more concentrated than wipe-out itself. I ran patches with patch-out until the came out clean. Took about 7-8 patches with about 5-10 minutes between each to remove what I assumed would be all the powder, carbon and copper residue. Then I ran a wet patch and left it till after dinner and then dry patched the bore twice (they were clean), so I ran an oiled patch and put the rifle away. I have not fired the rifle since, but today I decided to see what would happen if I followed my usual routine. So I ran a dry patch, then a patch with isopropanol (to make sure there is no excess oil other than deep in the pores) and then a dry patch - no traces of oil or dirt. Normally the barrel would be ready to shoot, but I ran a single patch with copper cream..... and it came out filthy! |
