The .338 Win Mag is a GREAT grizzly ctg. - the .375 H&H in my humble opinion is even better. Anything larger is just something to cause flinching and poor hits. Many people have trouble shooting anything larger than a .338 or .375 - some even have trouble with them. NEVER over-gun yourself. A pefect hit with a premium bullet from a .300 is preferred to a poor hit with anything larger. I personally like .458 calibres - .45/70 or .450 Marlin lever gun is among the best for fist-fighting ranges. Big bears - again, in my opinion, should never to attempted beyond about 100 yards - 50 yards is even better. Getting on their terms, face to face makes the hunt worth while. Trying to snipe a bear at 200 or 250 yards to prove you're a man because you're afraid of them will only result in a poor hit and a stern & perhaps dangerous chase for the guide. I won't allow it. Hit them properly with a 286 Speer or 270gr. to 300gr. Nosler or TSX at 50 to 100 yards and the hunt is over. |
