Re: Encore Rifle in .375 Ouch & Ouch!

I don't have one in .375 H&H although they are chambered for that caliber and up to .416 Rigby and worse. My biggest Encore round is a long throat .405 Win operating at 58-60Kpsi. I think somebody asked me why bother with a long throat .405 when a .375 H&H barrel is available. The recoil is of my .405 Win is suprisingly moderate( 400 gr bullet at 2150fps). However, accuracy is down right phenomenal. I use muzzel brakes and one mercury recoil reducer. The Encore can take enormous pressures. I have good evidence of them surviving at 85 KPSI. The frame will stretch( and rebound) and brass will verify this, but they are extremely strong actions. Eventually they will stretch far enough to cause headspace problems, but that takes a lot of heavy loads. Felt recoil is ofter more of a function of bad stock design than anything else.-Rob
