Folks, I don't know if you ever got this question answered but please take a look at how we do it at BASA. Go to www.bigbore.org We have been trying to get international chapters going for some time but there are a host of problems: 1) Our joining fee for overseas members is too harsh because of the costs of international money transfers and postage for our quarterly journal. You can check out a copy on our website! 2) Groups that want to start up seem to lack the critical mass to really get past begin. You really need at least 15 to 20 comitted people who will carry the donkey work (This is true of most associations) 3) It's hard to share the true nuance of what we are about at long distance. Ideally we need folk who have experienced our shoots first hand to be available to potential new chapters to pass on some of the "vibe". We are looking at solutions to these problems and should be able to start offering more info regarding this soon. We will soon have our journal available as a pdf for a much more reasonable cost too. There are a few expatriates who were members here looking to start up in Australia. There is tiny chapter going in New Zealand and something starting up in Scandinavia. There's been lots of queries from the States but no one has really run with it there yet. Lets keep the conversation going and perhaps something can come of it soon? |
