I had a little time after work today and went out shooting. I was feeling particularly ballsy today so I went for the biggest I have. I shot a 460 weatherby 12" barreled encore, and the 600 nitro 14" encore. They both rattled me pretty good. I had a friends chronograph and got the velocities recorded. In the 460, I got 2182 ft/sec with the older hot factory 500 grain bullets. This is about 100 ft/sec faster than 2 years ago. I fired it twice. I shot the 600 3 times with handloads, and got an average of 1664 ft/sec with 900 grain woodleighs. Its the first time I have shot the weatherby in over 2 years. The gun held together fine this time. The 460 weighs 4 lbs and 8 oz, and the 600 weighs 5lbs and 9 ounces. Other than the palm of my hand being sore, I feel fine. It is kind of like a train wreck when either gun goes off. WOW!! It does wake you up. I am the first to admit there is no practical use for these beasts, but I still like shooting them every now and then. I guess some of us just have a different definition of fun. |
