Dakotas are nice and shoot well

I've shot a few Dakotas that were surprisingly inaccurate, despite looking very nice. And have a couple of friends who sold theirs for the same reason. Maybe these were lemons, but I've heard the same from several other people too. This was several years ago, and perhaps their quality control has improved?

**Not so sure what is really going on with their company...do know they were in a world of hurt financially a year or two ago...rumors of bankruptcy were floating around..but supposedly they are doing better now...I would think when a company gets in that kind of trouble..more than just the financials suffer..as in quality of workmanship as well..perfect example..look at the horrible stuff sent out the doors by Winchester the last year or two...a sporting goods store here in town had one in a '06 that they bolt would not even open all the day which they sent back..

Do agree.. for a custom gun, Winchesters action are pretty good and would have no problem using one for a custom dangerous game rifle..however with the price they have increased too for a pre-64 action..no so sure how much you will really save if you build your own rifle..using a Winchester rifle versus a Dakota action...
