My 470 NE Hagn actioned Jack Haugh was designed with 3 mercury recoil reducers in the butt. Putting a muzzle brake on it would have been like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa. However, I must say that while they are noisy buggers, muzzle brakes are the most effective means of reducing felt recoil. My Reeder Beasts use some very effective brakes in conjunction with intelligent stock design and recoil reducers to make what would otherwise be an unmanageable tool into one that can be handled properly -- but still demands your attention or it goes one way and you the other.
