585 GMA data and Wells vs GMA

I’m looking for data, including reduced load, for a 585 GMA. My understanding is that the difference between the GMA and the Wells design is the rim. If this is correct, then the data and dies should be interchangeable. I did notice that CH4D lists these as two different die sets with different die body diameters - perhaps the cases are more different than I believe. If anyone has dies, let me know. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately I cannot help you either because I just discovered the cartridge while reading the question.

Just a side question, because as a hunter who often hunt with the cartridge 460 WBY-Magnum, among other things, I am therefore often exposed to various comments and severe criticism.

Do you hunt with the cartridge 585 GMA ?

Re: 585 GMA data and Wells vs GMA

The rifle is new to me so I have not hunted with it. I had always wanted to have a Nyati built but this came along and I was in a position to buy it. I plan to run it at the original 577 NE performance rather than what it’s fully capable of. I still have one of my 577 3” BPE rifles that I hunt with. I know these cartridges are far apart in performance, but I’ve always liked the caliber. I would think it would be relatively easy to find 650gr cast or Woodleigh load to hunt stateside just to get some time in the field with it. Hope to someday have a chance to use it as it was originally intended.

As far as the loads are concerned, you can perhaps use that of the cartridge 585 Nyati as a guide, or not ?

good idea, the 585 GMA looks like an extented 585 Nyati. recoil with the nyati load is probably more then enough

The recoil by full load will be a chapter in itself.

I own a DR caliber 577 Nitro Express that delivers quite a bit of recoil with the normal load, and that in a rifle that weighs 7kg.
