load data for 375H&H with 350gr projectiles

Does anyone have any published or developed load data for the 375H&H with 350gr projectiles?

I will be loading Woodleigh RN SN 350gr which I know are quite heavy for calibre and all load data I have only goes to 300gr

I did find some suggested loads but would like to get as much info as possible to help determine where I will start. Woodleigh recommends an impact velocity of 1900-2400.

Loads will be for a CZ550 Safari with 1:12 twist.
Is 1:12 going to stabilise a 350gr OK?

Cheers.

Email Woodleigh. They will email it back.

I also think it has been published on here before.

I'll see if I can access my data which is a copy of the Woodleigh data.

Re: load data for 375H&H with 350gr projectiles

I use 350gn Taipans and 350gn Woodleighs in my CZ550 375H&H, ahead of 66gns AR2208. They are mild loads in my rifle and shoot accurately. I developed this load from one of the earlier Mulwex (ADI) powder guides - I believe it had the 350gn listed there (I can check if you like - should also show the expected velocity). I've only used these on paper and I think the Taipans may not perform well on larger game, but they are relatively inexpensive and accurate - good enough for small/medium game and paper targets.

Last time I asked 69 or 70g of AR2209 was recommended

I used Elmer Keith's load - 7- something grains IMR4350 (74.0gr. IIRC ONLY - DO NOT USE WITHOUT RESEARCHING AND WORKING UP TO IT) along with Fred Barnes 350gr. copper tubed and my own 350gr. bullets made from .223 brass. Trouble is, I don't remember and gave the load data with the rifle when I sold it.

They both shot fine - lots of recoil and about max I thought. Supposed to be 2400fps - again IIRC from 35 years ago.

IIRC - means - If I Remember Correctly

Geoff at Woodleigh will send you some recommended load data. His recommendations to me for shooting the 350g PP in my 375 H&H was as follows:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your loads are very much in line with ours:-
375 H&H 350gr RN or PP SN
Federal 215 primer
68-72 grains H4350 for 2300-2380 fps.
For FMJ start at 68 grains and work up if required.

Geoff McDonald.

Subject: Woodleigh 350g 375 H&H load data

Hi, I've bought 100 of your 350g PPs and 50 of your 350g solids for my CZ 550 in 375 H&H. My rifle is due in this week. The only load data I have is for Barnes 350g bullets. Do you have any suggested loads for the 350g bullets? I was thinking of using H4350. For 350g jacketed bullets Modern Reloading 2nd Edition by Richard Lee gives:

H4350 68g 2261 fps
H4350 72g 2432 fps

Thanks much,
Chuck

Re: load data for 375H&H with 350gr projectiles

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

I have emailed Woodleigh and will see what they recommend.

Bellow is the data I have found.
I have included the closest ADI equivalent ( ) as I only use ADI powders

Hodgdon H414 (2209) 70.5gr
Hodgdon H4350 (2209) 70-72gr
I think these Hodgdon loads sound about right and are on par with Dr Deer’s and chuck375's post, I always have 2209 on hand as well.

Vihtavuori N560 (2213SC) 84gr
2213SC at 84gr is surely a compression load and I am not a big fan of 2213SC, never had real good results with it in other calibres.

Reloader 15 (2208) 65.5gr
This sounds ok, maybe a bit light but might be a good starting point and is close to mauserand9mm’s post.

Reloader 19 (2209) 76gr
2209 at 76gr sounds like quite a hot load to me???

IMR 4895 (2206H) 64.5gr
Seems like a pretty fast powder for a 350gr pill but I’ve never used it so cant really comment.

Think at this stage I’m leaning toward 2209 starting at about 68 – 69gr and work up a little from there.

Cheers!

Re: load data for 375H&H with 350gr projectiles

AR2209 is a superb powder for the .375 H&H. Those who have tried AR2213SC say there's a noticeable loss of accuracy. I haven't bothered trying it.

BTW, AR2209 is identical to H4350, and AR2213SC ditto for H4831SC. They are made at ADI/Thales Mulwala factory, and packed by Hodgdon. Have look at the MSDS section on the Hodgdon website.

Edit: From the 2nd Edition of the ADI Handloaders Guide, max charge weights for .375 H&H 350gr, all Nominal 2150fps:
AR2208 56.0gr
AR2209 72.0gr
AR2213 73.0gr - not AR2213SC, but the older version

i'd go with 66 grains of R-15

Re: load data for 375H&H with 350gr projectiles

When Elmer worked with 4350, only IMR was available. It is not an "EXTREME" powder, like the ADI made 'H' powders.

Hodgdon doesn't make powders themselves. They buy powders or powder companies and sell those products, come relabled and some not. A couple non-relabeled powders they now sell are WW and IMR brand powders, which Hodgdon now owns.

I'd stay away from the faster powders with the heavy 350gr., powders like Re#15 and H4895. In a Reloader powder #19 would be the one and probably increase velocities over all others. It's an amazing powder in some applications.

Re: load data for 375H&H with 350gr projectiles

Well I got a response from Woodleigh and it has confirmed what I was intending to do.

Use Federal 215 primer
68-72 grains AR 2209 for 2300-2380fps.
Pressures are low, accuracy and lethality excellent.
Regards,
Geoff McDonald.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Cheers!

Re: load data for 375H&H with 350gr projectiles

I just used the 350 grain PP's @ 2250 fps on Scrub Bulls with good results with the 300's @ 2570 fps and the 235 grain Hydro's @ 2930 fps.
All worked well.

Re: load data for 375H&H with 350gr projectiles

Anyone got a load for the 350g Woodleigh PPs for the 375 Weatherby Mag? I have 300 of the Woodleighs sitting on my loading shelf. I'm looking for about 2550 fps which should be easily doable.

Chuck

Try Geoff at Woodleigh. When the 350gns were tested, Geoff was looking for a 375 Wby to test them. I am not sure if he got one but I think he might have load data.

Brno ZKK 602 rechambered from H&H
WW cases
350-grain PP or RN
CCI 250 primer
81 grains IMR 4831
COAL 3.585"
2400 fps
25 yds -0-
50 yds +2"
100 yds -0-
200 yds -4"
300 yds -10 to 12"

Tried W760 with RHINO 350 and 380 grainers before (75 to 76 grains).
72 grains IMR 4350 with 380 grainers yielded 2260 fps.

I do NOT "push envelopes" so go further if you like. The IMR 4831 is compressed and the W760 not.
