Another trend, which I find humorous to the point of ridiculous, is that in Zimbabwe and other southern african countries bush meat is seen as a staus symbol amoungst the ministers and those who have been the recipient of gov't "largess." Serving bush meat at social gatherings apparently indicates that the city slicker is in tune with the bush and in touch with the rural people. Kinda like wearing kinte cloth here I guess, which is equally stupid. Bush meat is called "red gold" in the parlance, indicating the blackmarket support for comercial poaching. JPK |
